About Me
Since I lack a conference bio to reuse, you'll have to make do with my responses from a recent icebreaker.
My name is Marcus Plutowski, I'm from California; my fun fact is that I've met Joe Biden.
I'm currently employed by Apple, working on hardware-software codesign as part of the JavaScriptCore team. My title is "Senior JavaScript Virtual Machine Compiler Engineer" but I probably spend most of my time writing allocator code in C - particularly libpas, WebKit's all-in-one inhouse memory allocator. Before this I worked on GPGPU software and architecture at Rivos (since acquired by Meta).
Outside of work, I keep myself busy with projects, reading (particularly medieval history), sending lengthy screeds to my friends, and, as of late, wedding planning. I have a great fondness for the land of my birth, and especially its incomparable natural beauty. In former years I used to run an educational 501(c)3 NPO known as Valkyrie Robotics.
My Writing
The first purpose of this blog is to get things out of my head without immediately dumping them onto my friends, ever-patient as they are with my discursions. Consequently I write about a variety of topics, including system software, medieval history, economic and political history more broadly, AI safety, and philosophy.
